Busia County Government and Stanbic Bank Foundation Equip Vocational Trainees with Digital and Beauty Tools.

Busia: Busia County Government, in partnership with the Stanbic Bank Foundation, has donated 15 laptops to support the implementation of The Digital Skills Program. This initiative, led by the Foundation, aims to build digital skills among communities with the goal of creating jobs in the digital and digitally enabled sectors annually. The program focuses on providing training and placement linkages for jobs in the burgeoning digital economy.

According to Kenya News Agency, the County Executive Committee member for Education and Industrial Skills Development, Beatrice Nakholi, emphasized the importance of digital skills in today’s job market during the event. She stated that the new equipment would empower youth to overcome challenges such as unemployment. Ms Nakholi remarked, “This equipment will play a crucial role in helping our youth acquire the skills needed to thrive in today’s competitive world. This partnership will go a long way in ensuring that our young people are not left behind as the world mov
es towards digital innovation.”

Edgar Karani, Team Leader of Stanbic Bank’s Busia Branch, echoed Ms Nakholi’s sentiments, highlighting the necessity of digital transformation for young people. He noted, “The world has gone digital, and it is vital for our youth to transition into this new era. Without these skills, they risk missing out on countless opportunities that could improve their livelihoods.”

Additionally, the Department of Education and Skills Development distributed Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy Tools and Equipment purchased with the budget of FY 2023-2024. This included items such as adjustable barbering chairs, massage couches, shampooing chairs, blow-dry machines, hair dummies, manicure tables, and sterilising machines, which will be distributed across various Vocational Training Centres (VTCs) in Busia.
