Business owners in Loitoktok have been challenged to familiarize themselves with regulations related to the legal operations of their businesses.
During a consultative multi-sectoral agency business owners’ forum in Loitoktok Town, the business owners were challenged to observe regulations set for their businesses to avoid conflict with the law.
They were also challenged to own Loitoktok Town and ensure the cleanliness of the Town is maintained as well as take care of trees planted within the Town and its environs.
Member of County Assembly (MCA), Kuku Ward, Edwin Lemomo, who organized the forum lamented of roaming livestock in Town which are destroying the young growing trees.
Lemomo warned stern measures would be taken against those allowing their livestock to roam freely destroying trees.
On waste management, the MCA called upon the business owners to utilise the 5-acre dumping site in Loitoktok set aside for waste management.
The MCA noted waste management as the main challenge facing the Town and i
ts environs.
He encouraged them to also utilise the sewer system to manage liquid waste from their businesses.
Chief Officer in charge of the Department of Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change, Kajiado County, James Ngugi warned the livestock owners of animals roaming to withdraw them.
Ngugi urged them to comply or else the animals would be confiscated and fines imposed; cow or donkey at Sh 10,000 and sheep or goats at Sh 5,000 failure to which they would taken to the market and sold.
Ngugi called upon the business owners to utilise the Makaburini dump site to dispose of their wastes.
On noise pollution, the officer warned those violating guidelines on noise pollution management will face arrest and prosecution.
However, the participants lamented of dirty Loitoktok Town owing to the dumping of waste all over because the dump site is far from the Town; 8 km from the Town.
They also noted a lack of waste collection points where waste is temporarily collected before being taken to the dump si
te, however noted the only vehicle for the collection of waste in Loitoktok is no longer available calling for restoration of transport services.
On security, though the participants appreciated the prevailing security in Loitoktok however were advised to boost and enhance security by engaging their security personnel as well as installing CCTV cameras in their business premises.
During the forum, a plot owners’ committee was instituted which is mandated with waste management and cleanliness of the Town.
