Children-Centred Tree Planting Campaign Kicks Off

The Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM) Homa Bay County branch in partnership with a Community-Based Organisation (CBO) dubbed ‘Plant trees for a better environment’ have launched a tree planting campaign targeting children in the County.

According to SUPKEM Secretary Nuhu Masud, the two organisations under a programme titled ‘Back to school with a seedling programme’, have an agenda of educating children on the importance of planting trees.

‘We want children to plant their trees, tend them and know the importance of the trees,’ he said.

He said the programme also aimed at empowering each pupil to plant at least one tree in their schools.

Masudi noted that this is also a strategy to meet the tree planting strategy of planting 50 billion trees by the year 2032.

In addition, he said children should also be educated on climate change and its effect as a strategy for environmental conservation.

He further affirmed that as a community, their objective is to promote and advance the well-being of the mem
bers of the community.
