County supports technical institutions to upskill learners

The County Government of Bungoma is working closely with Technical Training Institutions in the area in order to bring to market the products of their innovations in the training institutions.

County Executive Committee Member for Trade, Energy, and Industrialisation Dr. David Mamili says the institutions have the capacity to manufacture items in various sectors through knowledge acquired from courses offered.

Dr. Mamili said that it was important that the innovations from the technical institutions are taken out to the field for the items to find a market and give incentives for more production of the items.

He was speaking at Masinde Muliro Stadium, Kanduyi, in Bungoma South today at the close of a three-day Bungoma County Trade Fair whose purpose was to showcase what the County has to offer in terms of trade.

The theme of the trade fair was ‘Innovation in Manufacturing and Cottage Industry as a Means of Spurring Trade and Growing Employment in the MSME Sector.’

Dr. Mamili said that the level of unempl
oyment among the youth was high and that through the exhibition the youth can learn how to manufacture goods for trade and in turn earn a living.

He asked traders in the area to work towards adding value to the items that they produce locally as a way of earning more income from their goods, pointing out that woodwork is an area that has great potential.

Dr. Mamili asked the traders to aim higher and explore markets outside the county as a way of expanding their scope of trade.

The CEC Member said that the County Government of Bungoma was giving out trade loans to traders in the area from as low as Sh5,000 to boost their capital and asked them to apply and benefit.
