Crackdown In Kisumu Improves Adherence To Traffic Rules, Says Traffic Commander

The continuous crackdown on vehicles flouting traffic rules in Kisumu Town has led to a significant improvement in adherence to traffic regulations, thus restoring order on the city’s roads.

Nyanza Regional Traffic police commander Allan Mwangi has confirmed that the ongoing operations have yielded positive results in improving road safety and ensuring that all vehicles adhere to the necessary traffic standards.

‘The operation is not a one-time event, it is an ongoing activity conducted daily to ensure sustained compliance with traffic regulations,’ he stated during an interview with KNA.

The objective, he explained, is to enforce vehicle inspections, licenses, insurance and overall vehicle maintenance which are critical for road safety.

The Traffic Commander commended the public for their change in attitude and their increased support toward traffic officers when apprehending drivers who fail to comply with rules and regulations, as well as impounding unworthy vehicles.

‘Unlike in the past, where there
was resistance and hostility during the arrest of rogue drivers and the impounding of unfit vehicles, the residents are now showing more support,’ he noted.

Despite the positive outcome of the crackdown, he noted, there is the major challenge of dealing with drivers who refuse to stop when requested by traffic police.

‘Some drivers attempt to evade police even at roadblocks, which poses a significant risk and complicates enforcement efforts,’ he lamented.

However, Mwangi emphasized that Kisumu traffic police remain committed to sustaining these efforts to guarantee ongoing safety and order in the city.

He urged the public to adhere to traffic regulations and to support initiatives aimed at enhancing road safety.
