Department Heads Urged To Report And Communicate On Government Projects

The Heads of Departments (HoD) of the National government in Uasin Gishu County, have been called upon to report on the status of various projects under their purview, to enable the government to have information for proper planning, towards efficient service delivery to the citizens.

Speaking during the County Implementation Coordination and Management Committee (NGD-CICMC) meeting for the Heads of Departments in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu, the Committee Chair who is also the County Commissioner (CC), Dr. Eddyson Nyale, pointed out that the government is keen to know the status of the ongoing projects.

He noted that the government is currently embracing a societal approach, to how the projects are impacting the lives of the local communities, in line with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) pillars.

He further indicated that they should have elaborate information and understanding of the government projects, to be able to communicate the agenda of the government to the members of the public, to
help counter misinformation and propaganda that misleads the people, regarding the projects.

‘The essence of us to know all this project information, is that at any one time, at any forum, in any conversation, you as Head of Department in this County, will be in a position to explain on behalf of the government, to shape-up the public opinion, make members of the public clearly understand about the government projects,’ he said.

‘The Government is very keen on providing this very critical information to members of the public, in any forum, meetings, barazas, this information should be in your figure tips, let us speak and own it,’ added Dr. Nyale.

The Presidential Delivery Unity (PDU)-In Charge of Uasin Gishu, Nandi, and Kericho counties, Martin Rotich, said that the HoDs are supposed to be reporting on the status of the projects every month and others on a weekly and daily basis.

‘We were given the Data gadget, where we are required to report in real-time on all the national government projects. The Pres
ident stated that the projects should be aligned to the BETA pillar such as the farmers’ registration, subsidy fertilizer distribution programme, hustler Fund Inua Jamii, the 15 billion tree planting campaign, and others,’ he noted.

He further explained that they are supposed to capture the name of the project, as it is in the document, the scope of the work to be done, project cost, money disbursed, money owed to the contractor, status of the project in terms of the percentage of completion, and if it is ongoing, complete or stalled, location, the implementation period, challenges and proposed solutions and the impact of the project on the BETA pillars.
