Departmental Heads Advised to Embrace Teamwork

Nairobi: Regional Commissioner (RC) Gilbert Kitiyo has urged all Regional and County Heads working in the County to embrace teamwork for collective effort in efficient and effective service delivery to the public.

According to Kenya News Agency, Kitiyo highlighted that the government has initiated several programmes and projects through various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to benefit the citizenry and reap maximum benefits for the nation. He emphasized the importance of team spirit in sensitizing the public about these projects and monitoring their implementation.

‘We cannot afford to work in silos as we want all public servants to become team players while providing services to Kenyans,’ stressed Kitiyo. He urged all MDAs to fast track the projects and programmes they are undertaking, ensuring they meet contract specifications and are completed within the stipulated timeframe.

The RC made these remarks during the National Government Delivery-Regional/County Implementation Coordination and Management Committee (NGD-RICMC/CICMC) meeting held at his Boardroom at Nyayo House, Nairobi. He underscored the role of the Regional NGD-RICMC/CICMC in coordinating national development projects, programmes, and presidential directives, emphasizing the need for officers to monitor and evaluate ongoing projects for quality work.

Kitiyo advised, ‘You should be in the forefront in coordinating and monitoring development projects in your areas and in case you detect problems in the implementation, escalate it to the relevant authorities.’ He highlighted the government’s efforts in constructing roads, markets, and affordable housing within the county to uplift citizens’ living standards as per the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda pillars. He urged public servants to sensitize the public on SHA registration and the 100 percent transition.

RC Kitiyo also reminded department heads to supervise their staff strictly, avoiding distractions from unrelated business activities during office hours. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a clean environment and a smart presentation by public officers.

During the meeting, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Bomas of Kenya, Jimmy Okidiang’i, informed the Committee about the progress of the ongoing construction of the State-of-the-Art Bomas International Convention Complex (BICC) project. The project aims to position Nairobi as a regional hub for conferences, exhibitions, and events. Okidiang’i noted that the government-funded flagship project, which impacts the country’s economic stimulus, is expected to create jobs during and after the construction period. It aims to boost conference tourism, support growth, and expand Kenya’s event and aviation ecosystem.

The BICC project, which started in March this year, is expected to be completed by March 2026, with an overview capacity of 11,000 pax. It will include convention and performance facilities, general conference and event spaces, and support facilities and amenities. The meeting was attended by Nairobi County Commissioner David Wanyonyi, Director Government Delivery Unit Jonah Orumoi, and Sub-County Deputy County Commissioners.
