The Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula is calling on Members of Parliament to establish digital hubs at the Ward levels to enable the area residents to benefit from the upcoming technology.

He pointed out that Parliament had passed a law that Members of Parliament open up digital hubs up to the Ward level so that they can partner with the Central and County Governments to ensure that Kenyans benefit from modern technology in their day to day lives.

The Speaker noted that with a digitization centre traders in the area would also be able to carry out business online and access market with fair prices for their goods.

He was speaking at St. Augustine’s Senior Seminary Mabanga in Bungoma County during the official launch of a 100 computer Konza digital skills lab at the institution.

The Speaker called on the seminarians whom he said would come out as priests, or work as teachers, chaplains in institutions or counsellors to guide families on moral practices in the homes, to utilize the skills ac
quired so that they can become digital champions.

He said this will enable them to disseminate the transformative agenda that the President has for the Country.

On farming, the Speaker asked the County governments to partner with the National government to ensure that they set up distribution centers for fertilizer as close as possible to farmers to have them cut down on transport costs of ferrying fertilizer to their farms.

He said the price of fertilizer is Sh2500 per 50kg bag and asked farmers to ensure that they purchase it at this price to produce enough food and maintain the food security of the County.

ICT and the Digital Economy PS Eng. John Tanui said the digital skills would enable the Seminarians whom he said reach a bigger part of the society work efficiently.

He said that the digital economy space was a new emerging space, which he said was flowing 2.5 times faster than the physical economy, thus the need to equip youths with digital skills.

Eng. Tanui said that the digitization process was
happening all over the world and that many businesses are started and concluded in the digital space and that the skills acquired would augur well for the beneficiaries.
