Ethiopia, Indonesia Strengthening Trade and Investment Relations: Ambassador Basnur

Indonesia’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Al Busyra Basnur, said that Ethiopia and Indonesia are working to further strengthen their relationships in trade and investment.

The ambassador told ENA that the countries have been improving their diplomatic relations in all sectors.

Apart from taking advantage of the opportunities in the economic sector, he said that new opportunities that help to strengthen the economies of the two countries are being created.

According to him, many Indonesian investors are largely engaged in the textile sector in particular.

Ambassador Basnur said that the desire of other Indonesian investors to invest in Ethiopia has been growing.

As a result, many activities have been underway to boost the economic ties between the two countries.

“The bilateral relations and cooperations between the two countries, Ethiopia and Indonesia, has increased significantly in all sectors, especially in economy. If we are talking about economic cooperation such as garment, there are a number of Indonesian companies in Hawassa Industrial Park. Totally, there are now six Indonesian companies investing in Ethiopia. I believe the number of this investment will increase significantly in the coming years,” the ambassador elaborated.

Recall that 79 Ethiopian investors took part in the trade bazaar organized in Jakarta, Indonesia, last year. That was a big start in further connecting the countries in the economic field, according to the ambassador.

Many Indonesian investors have been looking at the favorable conditions to invest in Ethiopia During the last two years, he stated, adding some are subsequently in the process of engaging in the pharmaceutical and food processing sectors.

“In the last two years many Indonesian companies have come to Ethiopia to seek the opportunities to invest not only trade in Ethiopia, mostly in pharmaceutical companies, and also in food and beverage sectors.”

Ethiopia and Indonesia established diplomatic relations in 1961 and Indonesia opened its embassy in Addis Ababa in 1964.
