Addis Ababa: An Ethiopian high-level delegation headed by Foreign Minister Taye Atske Selassie is participating in 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA79), taking place at the UN Headquarters in New York from 22 to 27 September 2024.
The delegation included senior government officials including Birhanu Nega, Minister of Education, Mekdes Daba, Minister of Health and Belete Molla, Minister of Innovation and Technology.
This annual gathering of world leaders is the most important event on the UN calendar, with Heads of State and Government and Heads of International Organizations discussing global challenges and how to address these challenges in the best interest of humanity.
The theme identified by the President of UNGA79, Philemon Yang, former Prime Minister of Cameroon is, ‘Unity in diversity, for the advancement of peace, sustainable development and human dignity for everyone everywhere.’
Minister of Foreign Affairs Taye Atske Selassie held various bilateral and multilateral talks
to promote Ethiopia’s interest at the global stage.
Accordingly, Foreign Minister Taye held talks with his South Sudanese and Algerian counterparts.
He also conferred with his Chinese Foreign Affairs Minister Wang Yi, mentioning the fact that Ethiopia and China enjoy longstanding diplomatic relations founded on strong historical ties, stating the recent signing of key agreements during the 4th FOCAC Summit in Beijing help to immensely bolster the multifaceted ties.
Moreover, Foreign Minister Taye met with Catherine Molly Phee, Assistant Secretary for African Affairs of US State Department and he appreciated the strong relations that Ethiopia enjoys with the United States of America.
He further noted the importance of having continued discussions on issues of shared interest.
