Ethiopian Striving to Raise Cargo Logistics Services to Over 10 Percent


Addis Ababa: The Ethiopian Airlines Group has announced that it is striving to raise its cargo logistics services to over 10 percent in the 2017 EFY.

In an interview with ENA, CEO Mesfin Tasew said that there are 16 large and medium-sized aircrafts that provide efficient cargo services.

Efforts are underway to provide efficient and excellent services from extensive facilities, the CEO said.

Currently, Ethiopian Airlines operates in over 140 global destinations, offering a range of cargo services.

Last year, the airline transported over 758,000 tons of cargo, generating 1.65 billion USD in revenues from the cargo sector, he recalled.

The airline is set to further increase its cargo logistics services by exceeding 10 percent in the current Ethiopian fiscal year, according to CEO.

Additionally, the airlines is meeting international standards, particularly for perishable goods and specialized shipments, which require extra caution, he said.

The airline established a modern e-commerce cargo service center w
ith 50 million USD last year in collaboration with Chinese companies and it is providing efficient services, he said, adding that the e-commerece capabilities will be expanded in the future.
