Ethiopia’s Finance Minister, World Bank VP Pledge Deeper Collaboration on Human Capital Development


Addis ababa: Ethiopian Minister of Finance, Ahmed Shide met with Mamta Murthi, World Bank Vice President, People Vice Presidency, who is in Addis for the Human Capital Forum, to discuss a partnership to advance the human capital agenda.



According to Ethiopian News Agency, during the meeting, the Minister highlighted Ethiopia’s focus on quality education, healthcare advancements reducing infant and maternal mortality, as well as scaling up safety nets. In its statement sent to ENA, the Ministry of Finance said Ahmed also thanked the Bank for continuous support to projects that can contribute to improving Human Capital Outcomes, including the SafetyNet’s, education, skills development, and health.



The meeting followed Vice President Murthi’s visit to Hawassa and her participation in the Human Capital Forum held in Addis Ababa. On her part, the Vice President reaffirmed the Bank’s support, including to the Health Compact and the sector’s endeavors to accelerate progress toward Universal Health Coverage.
