Githuci Residents Call On Government To Rehabilitate Roads

Residents of Githuci village in Umande ward, Laikipia County have blamed local leaders for failing to rehabilitate roads in the area amid numerous appeals which has made the dry weather rounds impassable following the ongoing heavy rains.

In an incident, mourners were forced to carry a casket bearing the remains of their loved one for more than two kilometers to the burial site on Tuesday owing to the impassable roads in the same area.

‘We had to carry the casket since the hearse could not traverse a road which is in a terrible state, we want this issue to be addressed by the leaders whom we elected and fulfill their pledges to the residents,” said Ruth Wanjiru.

Residents lamented that their appeals were ignored by the county leadership on rehabilitating the feeder roads asking for an immediate intervention in line with relieving their suffering.

‘We have witnessed a lot of challenges here due to these impassable roads. They are just 15 kilometers from the office of the governor. We appeal for their reh
abilitation,’ said Mwangi Michanjo, a resident.

‘Our roads are impassable, it’s a shame I elect leaders but no development, we are tired of fake promises. We want action and get passable good roads like other areas in the county,’ appealed Michael Maina.
