GL Initiative through Which Dev’t is Transferred to Next Generation: South Region Chief Administrator

We should take advantage of the Green Legacy (GL) since it is an initiative through which developmental history can be transferred to the next generation, South Regional State Chief Administrator Ristu Yirdaw said.

Today’s sapling planting campaign was launched at Dubancho Kebele in Lemo Woreda of Hadiya Zone.

The chief administrator, federal and regional senior leaders took part in the planting campaign.

We are carrying out the Green Legacy Initiative at a large scale and enable Ethiopians to make history at a time when the world is facing the challenges of climate change, Ristu said.

There are areas in the region that are affected by drought, floods and other natural disasters caused by unwise handling of nature, the chief administrator said, adding that planting of saplings compatible to the local ecology is therefore currently underway in the regional state.

Concrete results have been achieved because of our efforts over the past year, he noted.

According to him, special attention has been paid to cultivation of fruits that enhance economic potential and called upon the inhabitants of the region to make efforts to achieve the goal set by the Green Legacy.

Speaker of the House of Federation, Agegnehu Teshager pointed out that the implementation of the Green Legacy Initiative has been strengthening the values of unity among Ethiopians in addition to its contribution to food security.

He further explained that the benefits of the Green Legacy are huge in tackling climate change.

According to the speaker, planting of the saplings is intended to make tomorrow fertile, comfortable and the country prosperous.
