Government To Install 150 ICT Hubs Across The Country


Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communication and Digital Economy Eliud Owalo has challenged the youths in Nandi County to improve their livelihoods through government sponsored ICT hubs to be constructed across the country.

Owalo announced plans for installing 150 hubs across the country and underscored the government commitment to connecting Kenyan youths to job opportunities both locally and abroad aiming to boost employment prospects and enhance livelihoods.

He said the initiative will curb Kenyan youths travelling abroad to eke a living.

The CS reiterated government plan through his Ministry to empower Kenyan youths who are jobless by creating enabling environment in the digital space.

Aldai MP Marianne Keitany requested the government to invest heavily in technology to spur economic growth.

Keitany asked the CS to support the youths from Aldai with ICT facilities, and emphasized the need for additional resources, including computers and internet connectivity, for the Technical Training Institute
at Aldai.

She commended the partnership between Members of Parliament and the ICT Ministry through Constituency Development Funds to empower Kenyan youths with the ICT knowledge.

Keitany thanked CS Owalo for accepting to increase tree population in Kobujoi forest and further appealed to him to help safeguard already planted trees to maturity.

‘We should not only focus on planting trees but also should care for planted trees,’ Keitany added.

The CS spoke in Kamarich Beat, Kobujoi Forest, Aldai after National Tree Growing exercise.

Owalo highlighted the importance of tree planting to achieve the Presidents target of 15 billion trees by 2032.

He emphasized the importance of tree planting in addressing climate challenges emanating from the adverse effects of climate change, improving agriculture, and providing livelihoods for Kenyans.

Owalo urged Kenyans to actively participate in tree growing to achieve the national tree planting target.

Also present was Nandi County Deputy Governor Dr. Yulita Mitei who
assured the CS that Nandi County Government was committed towards achieving presidential tree target by 2032.

The Ministry of Information, Communications and Digital Economy have a target of growing 5 million trees by 2032 in counties of Nandi and Kisii.

During recent National Tree Growing holiday, the ICT Ministry led by Cabinet Secretary Prof Edward Kisiang’ani together with other stakeholders planted close to 86,000 trees at Kaptobongen Wetlands, and Koiben Beat, Kobujoi Forest.
