Kabarnet Hurth Gets Sh4 Million Classrooms, Courtesy Of German City Friendship

Kabarnet Hurth, a public day school in Baringo County has benefited from a Sh4 million support from Hurth City courtesy of Germany-Kenya City twin program.

Speaking during the commissioning of the four new classes at Kabarnet Hurth Mixed Day Secondary School Monday, Hurth City Chairman Rudiger Winkler said that the project is a boost to many school going children in Baringo who cannot afford boarding facilities.

Winkler stated that the now 35 years existing partnership between his German City and Kabarnet Municipality has seen the mixed day school they are supporting alongside other institutions within the region grow tremendously.

‘When I last visited this institution in 2009 when it was a private school, there was only one building,’ he said.

The Hurth City Chairman said this year they are supporting 28 students from the public school from needy backgrounds in order for them to continue with their education without any challenge.

He said plans are also at advanced stages to support in equipping the new classrooms as well as sourcing for more funds that will aid in the establishment of a modern administration block and ablution facility for the institution located at the centre of the county headquarters.

Baringo deputy governor Felix Kimaiyo who graced the event lauded the initiative saying it will go a long way in motivating students to perform well in their studies.

‘We are greatly indebted to our Germany partners for this noble initiative that is not only beneficial to the institution, but also supports vulnerable members of the community through provision of food as witnessed during the Covid 19 pandemic,’ said the deputy Governor.

He said the county administration will endeavor to support the partners in their worthy course of reaching out to those residents who are challenged in the society.

During the function, Baringo County director of Education Japhet Masibu acknowledged that the funds which the donor pumped into the project was properly utilized and the learners cannot wait to use the facility.

Masibu called for more of similar projects in the county, adding that they will make good use of the projects for posterity.

On her part, Juliet Washa, the Institution Principal while thanking the donor for the support called for employment of more teachers arguing that the school that has a student population of 407 was growing tremendously.

Washa also requested the German friends to sponsor more children from the institution and if possible take a higher number than the seven per class that they are currently supporting.

Kabarnet Ward Member of County Assembly Earnest Kibet on the other hand, requested the German friends to support the establishment of new day schools especially in Kapropita and Kituro within the municipality noting that doing so will help in reducing distance and cost for those parents wishing to enroll their children in day schools.

Kibet at the same time stated that the area leadership will sit with the institution’s board to decide how to help distant students who are unable to access hostel within the town to ensure they learn in a conducive environment.

The partnership that started in 1988 has so far led to the construction of two secondary schools, the other one being Kapsogo Day Secondary school in Kapropita ward, the defunct municipality offices block and a fire station.
