KDF hold free medical camp


The Kenya Army Combat Engineers have collaborated with the Health Department in Kiambu to conduct a two-day medical camp at the Makongeni Health Center.

As part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts, the initiative seeks to offer healthcare services to residents, featuring free consultations, screenings, and treatments as a precursor to the KDF Day 2024.

Addressing residents during the event launch, Army Commander Major General David Tarus noted that the turnout exceeded expectations, and he found it inspiring to assist fellow citizens.

‘Collaboration between local residents and security agencies is essential for promoting development. By working together, we can effectively combat insecurity and improve service delivery.’ he remarked.

The KDF medics provided a range of medical services, including General Outpatient care, Cervical Cancer Screening, Dental treatments, Eye treatments, Child Welfare and Nutrition services, Comprehensive Care Clinic (CCC) services, and Health Promotion talks

Thika Barracks Commander Brigadier Patrick Mburu emphasized the army’s dedication to enhancing community health by pledging to install a 5,000-litre water tank at the facility, aimed at improving water supply and hygiene.

‘In healthcare, maintaining impeccable hygiene is essential. Proper sanitary conditions are vital for preventing infections and diseases. A reliable supply of clean water is crucial for all hospital needs, including handwashing, sterilizing medical instruments, and sanitizing surfaces.’

‘In order to uphold our rigorous hygiene standards, we plan to install a water tank in the near future. This initiative will help reduce the risk of germ accumulation and protect our patients’ health.’ He stated.

Furthermore, County Director of Health, Dr. Hillary Kagwa, praised the partnership, highlighting its significance in enhancing access to healthcare services.

‘We sincerely appreciate the ongoing support from the Kenya Defence Forces. This gesture has fostered a sense of confidence among our pe
ople regarding the disciplined forces, and we eagerly anticipate further collaborations in the near future.’ Stated Dr. Kagwa.

Residents expressed their gratitude for the free medical services offered at the camp, with many attending in large numbers. John Kamau, a local resident, shared his appreciation for the quality of care he received, stating that accessing proper medical treatment can be challenging. He urged the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to organize more free medical camps in the future.

KDF Day is celebrated every year on October 14th to honour and recognize the bravery and heroism of the KDF’s heroes and heroines.
