Kenya Police Triumph Over Mogadishu in CAF Champions League Preliminary

Nairobi: Kenya Police FC marked their debut in the CAF Champions League preliminary round for the 2025/2026 season with a decisive 3-1 victory over Mogadishu City. The match, which took place at Nyayo National Stadium, saw the FKF Premier League champions take a significant step towards advancing to the second round.

According to Kenya News Agency, the victory was secured through goals from David Simiyu, Edward Omondi, and Eric Zakoyo, giving Kenya Police FC a comfortable lead. However, a misplaced pass by Tobias Otieno provided Mogadishu City’s Adan Yusuf with the opportunity to score, reducing the deficit. Despite this, the Kenya Police managed to maintain their two-goal advantage and successfully shut down further advances from the Somali champions.

Kenya Police FC Coach Etienne Ndayiragije expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, stating that the aim was to overcome the preliminary stage and the win puts them in a favorable position for the second leg. He commended his players for their teamwork and noted that the team was well-prepared for the match, emphasizing the importance of continuous improvement.

Due to a lack of CAF-approved stadiums in Somalia, Mogadishu City opted to play their home matches in Nairobi. Consequently, the ‘return leg’ against Sudanese giants Al Hilal Omdurman is also set to be staged in Nairobi, positioning Kenya Police favorably for progression to the next round.
