A section of Nandi County Leaders has urged the youth to embrace the Jitume Program in order to secure employment abroad. The Jitume Program was launched in Kenya in December 2022 by President William Ruto as part of his quest to drive the digital sector forward. The Program is aimed at providing digital skills, e-services and online opportunities to young people throughout Kenya. Mosop Member of Parliament Abraham Kirwa is worried that many youths have not embraced the program as they are not aware of its existence. ‘This program helps us to train our youth on computer literacy and later on apply for jobs abroad,’ said the MP as he sought to shed more light on the nature of the program. The Jitume program is currently being carried out across all the 47 counties and in Nandi County, Kaiboi TTI has been chosen as the center of the program’s operations. Kaiboi TTI is located in Mosop Sub-County and according to the area MP, the institute is at the verge of being upgraded to a National Polytechnic. Getrude Sawe, the Principal of Kaiboi TTI stated that the first phase of training of young people in order to start working was over. ‘We have already trained 164 individuals and they comprise of students and teachers, we are waiting for the second phase in which people will be trained to become trainers,’ said Sawe. According to the Principal, those who will qualify after the training will be accorded an opportunity to work abroad. She listed America, Canada and the United Kingdom as part of the countries in which the qualified individuals will work. The Principal further stated that the qualified individuals will not be required to travel to those countries to work as all the work will be done online. ‘Work will be done for 24 hours each day and will be done in shifts of 6 hours,’ stated Madam Sawe. Nandi County Deputy Governor Dr. Yulita Chebotip expressed her displeasure in the indifference of some of the residents of Nandi County towards the programs being offered at Kaiboi TTC and urged them to fully embrace the Jitume program. The program will be officially launched in Nandi County on the 28th of June this year at Kaiboi Technical Training Institute by the Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu. The leaders were speaking during the commemoration of World Environment Day at Kaiboi TTI Over 2000 trees were planted in the college farm.
