Machakos County is gearing to host the 26th Safari Sevens Rugby tournament at the Kenyatta Stadium from the 11th to the 13th of October 2024.
Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti confirmed the counties readiness to host the tournament and noted that they were honoured to host the prestigious event for the first time in Machakos and have installed comprehensive security measures and top-level hospitality services to ensure safety for everyone.
Wavinya, while speaking to the media in her office at Whitehouse, extended her invitations to Kenyans and rugby fans to turn up in large numbers to spectate the games as they also enjoy Machakos hospitality, culture, and unique attractiveness.
‘We are truly honoured to host the Safari Sevens Rugby tournament in Machakos, and it’s a good opportunity to showcase our culture and hospitality, and we are ready to host visitors from all over the world to enjoy the electrifying atmosphere,’ said Governor Wavinya.
She underscored the importance of taking rugby to the grassroots
and how crucial the tournament is in fostering community engagement, local talent, and also promoting sports tourism in Machakos, while adding how thrilled they are to be part of a journey that seeks to inspire young athletes in Kenya.
‘It is an opportunity for us to connect and have lasting interactions while showcasing different talent and skills Machakos has to offer,’ added Wavinya.
The governor urged fans to turn up, cheer, and bring energy to the pitch as it adds life and excitement to the tournament, making Safari Sevens an unforgettable event.
The first Safari Sevens was held in 1996, and has since grown more popular, attracting top rugby talent players and large crowds, and this year’s edition promises to elevate the experience for fans, players, and the rugby fraternity and is expected to attract local and international teams as fans are advised to book their tickets early.
