Nairobi: Makueni County Women Representative Rose Museo has praised the ‘boda boda’ sector, highlighting its significant role in the country’s economy and its impact on improving the living standards of many individuals within the community. Museo emphasized the need for respect, protection, and security for the ‘boda boda’ industry to ensure it operates in an environment conducive to boosting local economies from the family level to the national scale.
According to Kenya News Agency, Museo made these remarks at the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) offices in Wote town, where she distributed a cheque of Sh300,000 to the MA BodaBoda Sacco. The Member of Parliament commended the sector for its organization and expressed optimism that continued unity and orderliness would lead to further achievements.
Museo addressed the riders, acknowledging the shift in perception of the ‘boda boda’ sector from being viewed as disorderly and criminal to being more structured. She called upon leaders, residents, and law enforcement to support and respect the sector, recognizing it as a crucial pillar in the economy of both the county and the country.
Additionally, Museo pointed out the diverse roles ‘boda bodas’ play, such as transporting women to hospitals during labor, ferrying children to school, and helping people navigate traffic in urban areas. She also encouraged the youth to form or join registered groups and SACCOs to access government programs.
The event also saw eight individuals involved in the salon business in Wote town receiving hair dryers, further supporting local entrepreneurship and economic growth.
