Marell Academy in Bungoma County has registered exemplary results in the just released Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results by Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu after several years in the cold.
Marell Academy outshined public schools in Bungoma and led private schools, with the first candidate scoring 416 marks.
Other private schools that performed well in Bungoma include Lotus Academy in Bukembe, Father Walstra Academy in Musikoma, and Christ the King Primary School in Bungoma town.
Bungoma County Director of Education Pius Ng’oma said that this year, Bungoma presented 75,047 candidates for KCPE and 54,859 for KPSEA.
Speaking to the press on Thursday, the Chief Principal of Marell schools David Kang’o lauded the institution’s directors, parents, teachers, and candidates for their efforts towards ensuring that the school posted exemplary results in the national exams.
Kang’o attributed the good results to hard work and dedication by parents, teachers, and candidates.
‘We
have been in the cold for several years but this year, God has rewarded our efforts,’ Kang’o said adding, ‘We have put strategies in place to ensure we improve and post even better results in the future’.
The school head revealed that this year, the school presented 30 candidates who sat for the KCPE exams adding that all the thirty candidates have performed well.
He said out of the 30 candidates that the school presented, 12 got 400 marks and above with Dolphin Barasa topping at 416, Gideon Wamalwa 414, Job Reagan 410, Felisters Shimuli 408, and Naomi Mutheu 404.
Kang’o called on the Ministry of Education to consider increasing form one slots to the private schools stating that in the past, private schools have been given few positions.
Elsewhere, a number of head teachers from public schools have decried slow access to results from the SMS code.
‘We are frustrated with the way exam information was supposed to reach us. The code that KNEC directed we use stopped working immediately after the CS finished
reading the results,’ said Tobias Khisa, Bungoma DEB head teacher whose school registered 486 candidates for the KCPE exams.
