Mtito Andei Health Centre Boosted with Sh 11 million Equipment Donation

Mtito Andei: Mtito Andei Health Centre in Kibwezi East Sub County has received a significant boost through a donation of medical equipment worth Sh 11 million. The donation was made by Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in collaboration with their global networks.

According to Kenya News Agency, the donated equipment includes bed linen sets, stretchers, beds with mattresses, drug trolley machines, a new-born resuscitate machine, portable ultrasound and X-ray machines, dressing trolleys, an automated chemistry analyzer, industrial laundry washers, an automated hematology analyzer, and other essential medical devices. Additional items include a Chroma machine, an electric microscope, large freezers, no frost fridges, a standby generator, infusion drip stands, baby incubators for preterm infants, oxygen concentrators, and a dental chair.

Mr. Robert Sheldrick, a Director with Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, while handing over the equipment, expressed his trust that this contribution would significantly improve healthcare services at the facility. “This assistance is crucial to the hospital, and we are committed to continuing our support to the community,” said Sheldrick, emphasizing the Trust’s involvement in conservation efforts at Chyulu National Park.

Sheldrick also highlighted the importance of environmental conservation. “We have only one Earth; we must not destroy it as we have no alternative. This assistance from donors carries the message of conserving our environment, which is vital for rain and food,” he emphasized.

Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr, speaking at the event, announced plans to elevate the hospital to Level 4 status and increase the number of healthcare workers, including nurses and doctors. He expressed gratitude to the donors and encouraged more partnerships to improve the lives of Makueni residents. “My government will work closely with Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and other partners to enhance health service provision to our people,” said Mutula.

Governor Mutula also called for more organizations to collaborate with conservationists like the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust to improve the environment.

The event was attended by Executive Committee Member for Health Dr. Paul Musila, health workers, and other dignitaries.
