Multi-Agency Team Formed To Counter Illicit Brewing

A Multi-agency team has been formed to counter any incident of illicit brewing in Narok County, the area County Commissioner (CC), Kipkech Lotiatia, has said.

Lotiatia, who is only a week old in the County, said operations were being carried out in all wine and spirits shops, clubs, bars and all drinking dens, to ensure the drinks sold to the residents were licensed.

‘The Multi-agency teams headed by Deputy County Commissioners and comprising of security team and village elders, will be conducting impromptu crackdown in all drinking points, to ensure they were selling standardized drinks to their customers,’ he added.

He warned premises selling alcohol to children and those operating near schools, that they risked having their licenses cancelled and the owners arrested.

‘All premises selling alcoholic drinks, should have an operating license. The premises should not be near a learning institution and should not allow children in the premises,’ reiterated Lotiatia.

He warned those who transport illicit br
ews from neigbouring counties, to sell in the County, saying they will be punished accordingly.

The County Commissioner called on all parents with school going children, to ensure that their children were attending school, failure to which they will be arrested and punished.

He observed that the Ministry of Education had given a provision, where all children, regardless of how they performed in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam, to join secondary schools.

‘Even those children who did not sit for the KCPE examination, have been given a chance to join secondary school or Technical Training Centers, to continue with education. No child should be allowed to remain at home, when their colleagues are in school,’ said Lotiatia.

The CC called on all education stakeholders, to work together, to achieve 100 per cent secondary and junior secondary school transition.
