Poor Voter Registration in Siaya

Siaya: Siaya County has managed to register a paltry 100 new voters since the voter registration kicked off six days ago.

According to Kenya News Agency, Catherine Bulinda, minimal turnout was witnessed in the five constituencies of Alego-Usonga, Bondo, Rarieda, Gem, and Ugenya where pockets of would-be voters reported to the centers.

Speaking on the phone, Bulinda said that it is only in Ugunja constituency where registration of new voters was not taking place as the electoral area was facing a by-election set for 27th November, 2025, to elect a new member of parliament after the former holder, Opiyo Wandayi, vacated it for a cabinet post in the board-based government.

In Alego-Usonga, the constituency has only managed to register 16 new voters since the registration exercise kicked off on 29th September, 2025, against a target of 31,000 new voters by 2027. The area constituency registration officer, Kennedy Ogutu, expressed disappointment with the figures, saying that they expected a strong turnout from the young voters. Ogutu said that they are contemplating intensifying outreach efforts through local leaders, schools, and chiefs to reach many youths.
