Prime Minister Abiy Inaugurates Ogaden Liquified Natural Gas Project


Calub: Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has inaugurated the first phase of the Ogaden Liquified Natural Gas Project, boasting an annual production capacity of 111 million liters in Calub, situated in Ethiopia’s Somali region.



According to Ethiopian News Agency, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed revealed the initiation of the second phase of the project, which is set to expand the capacity by an additional 1.33 billion liters per year. This announcement was made via a social media post this afternoon. The facility also plays a significant role in energy generation, with a production capacity of 1,000 megawatts.



Beyond its function as a gas facility, the plant is pivotal in Ethiopia’s food sovereignty efforts, as it supplies essential inputs for fertilizer production, Abiy noted. Moreover, the project supports energy and crypto-mining initiatives by providing critical resources.



Prime Minister Abiy emphasized the importance of the mega projects inaugurated in the Somali Region, with a collective value of 10 billion USD, including associated infrastructure. He reaffirmed the commitment to complete these projects, underscoring the government’s dedication to seeing projects through to completion.
