The county government of Narok has banned the use of private vehicles for game drives at the Maasai Mara National Reserve.

In a letter addressed to all gates and airstrips officers in-charge, the Chief Park Administrator Alex Nabaala said the directive was to conform to the Maasai Mara Management Plan that was signed into law last year.

Nabala said the only vehicles that will be allowed at the National Reserve are the Safari trucks, Safari Land Cruisers and Safari Vans.

The Maasai Mara is the leading source of revenue in the county with hundreds of thousands of tourists flocking the park every year to see a variety of animals among them giraffes, lions, elephants, cheetahs, leopards, rhinos and buffalos.

The Maasai Mara National Reserve Management Plan, Spatial Plan and Greater Mara Ecosystem Plan for 2023-2032 was signed into law in February 2023.

ldebeest migration happens.
