Public Urged To Take Advantage Of The Rains To Enhance Food Security

Transmara residents have been urged to take advantage of the heavy rains being experienced in the region to boost food security. The call was made by Transmara West Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Mohamed Noor Hassan while addressing the press at the Sub County headquarters in Kilgoris. The DCC challenged farmers from the region to consider diversifying agricultural activities explaining that it’s the only way to achieving food security in the area. ‘With the government subsidized fertilizer and the heavy rains which are now available, our farmers have no excuse. We expect them to plant crops on a large scale to enhance food security,’ he said. The DCC called for caution to ensure that no one dies of floods which are expected in the region. ‘The rains we are experiencing is a blessing which our people should take advantage of to plant more food crops. This will ensure that our people won’t die of hunger. However, it is high time we take caution especially those areas prone to floods, lightning and thunder strikes,’ he said as he challenged academic institutions to come on board to sensitize learners on the risks staring at them during this rainy season.
