Ministry of Education officials in Kajiado South Sub-County of Kajiado County have revealed that only a few schools have been affected by the ongoing rains.
While speaking to KNA in his office, Loitoktok Sub County Director of Education, Mr. Peter Bitah, pointed out that they are still monitoring the situation on the ground and getting ready for reopening on Monday 13 next week.
The Educationist noted that out of 117 public schools in the sub-county, only 14 have been affected by the rains.
Mr. Bitah observed that out of 95 public primary schools, only 9 have been affected, while 5 out of 22 secondary schools have been affected.
The Director further pointed out that the impact of the rains on the schools infrastructure is minimal, which the boards of management of affected schools have met and deliberated on how they can be renovated for smooth learning once the schools reopen.
The report of the Boards of Management have been sent to the County Director of Education for further advice and directives.

e, however, pointed out that Loolakir Primary School in Entonet-Lenkisim ward suffered flooding due to the overflowing of a nearby river after heavy rainfall in Tanzania.
Mr. Bitah retaliated that most of the affected schools are experiencing problems with accessibility after roads were destroyed by the rains.
‘Our fear concerns our students from boarding schools due to the challenge of travelling, especially due to poor roads after being adversely affected by the rains,’ he observed.
He also noted that the report of the situation on the ground from the primary school boards of management have been compiled and sent to the National County Development Fund office, the Ministry of Interior, and the county government of Kajiado.
Mr. Bitah has called upon the residents in the sub-county to continue exercising caution and taking care of their children during this rainy season.
