Relief As Machakos County Launches Bursary Worth 120 Million

Machakos County has set aside a Sh120 million bursary kitty for at least 28,000 needy students in the area.

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti, while speaking at Kanyama grounds in Matungulu Sub County said that the kitty was a major improvement from last year’s Sh80 million. The governor said the program is meant to cushion students from poor households to pursue education and transform their lives.

She noted that the beneficiaries are from secondary schools, tertiary colleges, and universities who were chosen after a thorough vetting process by the ward bursary committee.

Wavinya declared that the funds would be wired directly to the student’s school accounts saying the use of cheques had been causing delays in the previous disbursement of the bursary kitty leading to some students being sent home for fees.

‘My government is now keen on adapting the digital cash transfer system where money will be wired directly to the student’s account in the schools they are in,’ added Wavinya. Thus, she added her govern
ment will prioritize education and make it inclusive to ensure no student is left behind.
