Tsandi wants town council status

TSANDI: Tsandi Village Council Chairperson, Selma Kadhila, has appealed to the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development to upgrade the village council to a town council.

Kadhila made the plea during the official opening of the third Tsandi Annual Trade Fair and Expo held on Monday.

According to Kadhila, Tsandi should be declared as a town as its population has increased and its economy has also grown.

Tsandi was declared a village council in 2015.

Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Erastus Uutoni, urged the village council to work hard if they are to be declared a town council.

He said in order for it to be declared as a town council, the council’s leadership and community need to work together and they should ensure that the residents of Tsandi honour their municipal service payments on time to assist the council to re-invest in the village’s development.

Uutoni further urged the Tsandi Village Council’s leadership to put their political differences aside to realise the ambition of being upgraded to a town council.
