Kericho: The national government is making progress in upgrading road infrastructure in Kericho County, with key projects in Belgut Sub-County nearing completion.
According to Kenya News Agency, the upgrading of the Kapsuser-Sachangwan/Tegat-Sosiot Road (9.2 km) and Kapsuser-Kipsolu Road (3.8 km), a combined 13 kilometers, began on April 24, 2024, and is currently 63.5% complete. The project, undertaken by the contractor M/s Amanta Construction Co. Ltd., is expected to be completed by September 2025 and will improve accessibility in the region, especially for local farmers, traders, and key institutions such as schools and health centers.
Meanwhile, during an inspection tour of the project, Principal Administrative Secretary in the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Ms. Juliana Yapan (MBS), lauded KeRRA and the implementing agencies for their efficiency in executing the project. Ms. Yapan stated, “I am impressed by the progress of the road projects. They are on track for timely and within-budget completion. These roads will greatly enhance access to markets, health facilities, schools, and administrative services, all of which are essential to improving the livelihoods of our people.”
Moreover, the government has invested Sh905,857,473 in the project, which is expected to boost rural connectivity by linking feeder roads to major regional routes. The improved road network will also enhance the transportation of agricultural produce and promote trade in towns along the corridor.
Furthermore, KeRRA Regional Director, Eng. Gibson Nyamuta, acknowledged the challenges encountered during the implementation phase, including resistance from landowners over land acquisition for outfall areas, disputes regarding employment, and community concerns over road diversions and the reinstatement of feeder roads. Eng. Nyamuta assured residents that all concerns would be addressed in collaboration with local leaders and stakeholders to ensure a smooth and inclusive project execution.
